The solar eclipse on August 12 is not only a fascinating astronomical event – it also provides a remarkable real-world example of how closely weather, the atmosphere, and renewable energy are interconnected. However, the potential impact on wind energy is less obvious than that on solar energy.

More than 110 attendees from about 50 companies gathered under our roof to discuss and exchange ideas on various topics related to the Virtual Power Plant. Topics ranged from hybrid parks and balancing power to global market insights and power forecasts. 

Our colleagues Lars and Peter from the Forecasting Key Acoounting team were attending the ESIG (Energy Systems Integration Group) Summer Workshops 2026 in Denver, Colorado, from June 15th-17th. At this year's event, they were sharing insights into two key topics that are shaping the future of renewable energy forecasting: AI-driven forecasting and situational awareness for solar power plants in high-risk areas.

This topic explored our colleague Eike Arndt in his presentation "AI-Forecast-Driven Remote-Control of Distributed Energy" at ETCSEE 2026 in Budapest.
