Completion of the DIGITECHNETZ Project

Grid Load Forecasts for the Low-Voltage Network

With the successful completion of the DIGITECHNETZ project, we can look back on an exciting and insightful collaboration. We were able to provide significant support for the project with our grid load forecasts for the low-voltage network and develop forecasts at several levels:

  • Vertical grid load forecasts for local grid stations and their outputs
  • Forecasts at the individual consumer level, including for batteries, wall boxes, heat pumps, and mixed household loads
  • Solar power forecasts for rooftop PV systems

A statistical model was used for the consumption forecasts, which maps individual load profiles in a much more differentiated way than classic standard load profiles. Even though the high volatility of individual consumers naturally precludes an exact prediction, our models enable a more realistic representation of typical usage patterns.

Findings on the forecast quality of grid loads in the low-voltage network

At the level of local grid stations and their outputs, the forecasts are already very stable – here, the volatilities of individual consumers balance each other out, resulting in robust and easily predictable power profiles.

The project has given us valuable insights into the challenges and potential of power forecasts in the low-voltage network – especially in the context of increased decentralized feed-in from PV and the increase in power-intensive consumers.

We would like to thank all project partners for their excellent cooperation and look forward to incorporating the insights gained into future projects.
