emsys receives the Oldenburg Business Award 2025

Recognition for entrepreneurial achievement and regional impact

In a festive ceremony on October 7, 2025, the founders of energy & meteo systems, Dr. Ulrich Focken and Dr. Matthias Lange, were honored with the Oldenburg Business Award at the EWE Forum / Alte Fleiwa. The award is presented annually by the business association Der Kleine Kreis e.V. and recognizes companies that make an outstanding contribution to strengthening the Weser-Ems economic region.

In her address, Mirja Viertelhaus-Koschig, Chairwoman of Der Kleine Kreis, emphasized the special importance of energy & meteo systems for both the region and the energy transition: “With its highly precise forecasting models for wind and solar power, emsys provides the foundation for a reliable, predictable, and efficient use of renewable energy – a key pillar of the energy transition.”

Pioneering spirit and intelligent energy systems

Alexander Küppers, Investment Director at Statkraft Ventures, also praised the founders’ pioneering spirit: “Ulrich Focken and Matthias Lange recognized early on that the energy transition is not just about wind turbines and solar panels, but above all about intelligence within the system.” He also noted, in view of the radical transformation of the energy sector: “Much of what once seemed unthinkable has been made reality by emsys through creativity and hard work.”

From Oldenburg to the world – with a clear mission

Since its founding in 2004, energy & meteo systems has evolved into an internationally recognized innovation leader in the integration of renewable energies. Despite its global success, the company remains deeply rooted in its home region – characterized by northern German reliability, team spirit, and a clear mission: Contributing to the success of the energy transition through innovative solutions.

Commitment to education and climate protection

The award, endowed with € 5,000, will be donated by the awardees to one of their heartfelt causes: supporting and expanding educational initiatives in schools to teach children and young people about climate protection and renewable energy. “What drives us – climate protection – is something we want to pass on to the next generation,” agree Ulrich Focken and Matthias Lange.
